In-House Courses

In-house courses are a way to push content out to your employees that they can consume through the platform. If you are teaching in a classroom setting but want to do the exams online, use the in-house exam feature. To build an in-house course, click the “In-House Courses” tab.

To build a new course, click on “Build New In-House Course” at the top.

Creating the Course

There are 5 steps you must complete to build an in-house course.

Step 1 – Create Course Information

The first step in to provide the information about the course. The title of the course will be displayed to your employees, so make it something easy to interpret. The location will be “Online.” The description of the course will be visible to your employees in the course library. The kind field is used to designate which course library the course will show in. The instructor can be your department’s name, or the educator from your department that created the course.

If you are doing the class with a live instructor in a virtual classroom, click the “Appears in Live Course Calendar.” Do not check the box if this is self-paced material. If you require a time limit on the course before the learner can access the exam, click the “Time Limits” checkbox and put the number of seconds required before the exam becomes available.

Add accreditation to the course. If you have a course with multiple categories and hours, that information can be applied here. The approval code is your department’s EMS Accreditation Training Entity Number given to you by the state you are in. The start date is important as it determines when users can have access to the course. The expiration date is when the accreditation will expire.

Step 2 – Create Slides

The next step is to add slides. Slides are any file you are using for the course. You can add Microsoft Word documents, PDFs, videos, or links to YouTube or Vimeo. We also support Scorm or Captivate files. You can make files downloadable to your staff. Upload the files you want for the course. You can add more slides to include different types of content. Once you are done building the course, hit the “Save” button.

Step 3 – Add Exam

The next step is to build the course exam. You can define how many minutes the exam allows. The Question Total field is where you define the number of questions the exam will have. You can adjust the scoring and the number of attempts the learners can have before they need permission to re-test. Exam questions and answer order can be randomized.

After defining the setting, you need to create the exam questions. The questions can be or contain images. All answers require an annotative explanation as to why the answer is correct. After all of the questions have been defined, hit the “Save” button.

Step 4 – Add Evaluation

The next step is to select an Evaluation Template from the drop-down menu. If you have not yet built an evaluation template, see how to do that in the Certificate and Evaluation Template article.

Step 5 – Add Certificate

The last step is to select a Certificate Template from the drop-down menu. If you have not yet built a certificate template, see how to do that in the Certificate and Evaluation Template article.

Activating and Editing Your In-House Course

Your in-house course should now show in the list of in-house courses. Click on the title to edit or activate it.

If you want to preview the course slides before releasing the course to your employees, you can do that here. You can also print the test key and the exam. Once you start having course completions, you’ll be able to review the Evaluation Report and Exam Report.

If you would like to make your course available for your employees in the course library, click the “Show in Course Library” button. You will receive a notification that the course saved successfully, and the course will then show in the library you chose when creating the course. If you want to course to be made available by assignment, click the “Show in Assignments” button. This will allow you as an administrator to assign the course to your staff, but they would not be able to enroll in the course on their own. You can have both options available by simply clicking both buttons. Once you have finished editing the course, click the “Close” button.
