Where are Medic-CE.com Continuing Education Units (CEUs) Accepted?

Continuing education requirements vary widely by state and are constantly changing. This document attempts to summarize state online continuing education policies.

The following information was compiled from December 2009 to January 2010 by browsing state EMS websites, as well as by directly calling state EMS certification offices. While a great deal of time was spent in an attempt to provide you with correct and current information, Medic-CE.com does not assume any liability for a person who takes a course or courses which is/are not accepted in that person’s particular state.   • EMT I, II, III can earn up to 24 hours of CE online during the two year certification period.
  • MICPs need 60 hours of continuing education per year and can earn them any way that they want, whether online, classroom, or clinical.

  • Arizona does not allow online CE to satisfy state CE requirements at this time. However, an EMT-I or P may be able to earn some or all of his or her state CE requirements per his or her Medical Director approval.

Online Continuing Education Policy:

  • California continuing education units can be earned using Medic-CE.com, as Medic-CE.com is a CECBEMS approved provider.
  • The Medic-CE CECBEMS approval number is MedicCE6500.
  • Medic-CE.com provides access to an instructor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, via email or telephone to answer any questions a student may have and is, therefore, classified as instructor-based continuing education.
  • California only awards credit hours above 1 hour in half hour increments. Therefore, any Medic-CE course that is 1.25 hours will count as 1 hour in the state of California, and any course that is 1.75 hours will count as 1.5 hours in the state of California. Consult your regional EMS office for further information.

  • Continuing education hours can be earned online if recognized by the local Education Center or Education Group. In general, many of these groups accept CECBEMS approved courses.
  • The Colorado DPHE recommends that not more than 50% of the required CE hours be earned online.
  • Colorado EMTs have the option to renew their licenses with a current NREMT registration. A portion of the NREMT requirements can be fulfilled using Medic-CE.com continuing education hours. See the NREMT information at the top of this document for further details on NREMT requirements.

  • Connecticut does not allow online CE credits to be used toward state license renewal at this time for EMT’s or AEMT’s. However, the state is looking to add it as an option in the future.
  • Paramedic continuing education requirements are at the Medical Director’s discretion.
